Ways to Keep All Pests out of Your Home

Is the sight of an insect, rodent, pest or bug common in your household? Are you aware of the best ways to keep these pests out? If you are one of those households, that would shriek and reach out for a bug repellent at the sight of a baby cockroach or a teeny spider, then we are on the right page.

So what do you do to prevent this infestation?

  • Reduce attractions for pests for feeding, harboring or breeding, and you’ll have less issues inside the home
  • Eliminating the pests is not enough; the situations that attract pests are to be removed

Here are 10 tips to keep pests completely out of the interiors or exteriors of your homes.

  • Wood chips and mulch are a good option for the shelter of pests. Trim back the shrubs or tree branches which are in contact with your building. This breaks the connection.
  • Pests can wiggle in through minor cracks and gaps present in your broken doors or windows. If there are some those actually don’t fit well, get them repaired soon for a pest-free home.
  • There might cracks and gaps in your homes which are unnoticed. These allow pests and bugs to enter. Seal such gaps with coarse steel wool, copper mesh, mortar or sheet metal to block their entries.
  • Patios, yards, decks and garages must be kept clean and devoid of litter, weed and standing water. Trash cans that come in tight fit lids must be used to take trash out. Garbage must not be allowed to spill, thus stopping the fungus from spreading.
  • High-intensity lights reduce the density of insects and pests in your homes. Place the lights on the exterior walls near the doors. The light only needs to shine near the door to keep pests out.
  • Gaps and cracks exist which are visible only from the interiors of a home. These can be found under refrigerators, kitchen cabinets and stoves as well as between the floor and wall juncture and around the walls.
  • Floor and sink drains most often accumulate debris and gunk. They become perfect breeding sites for pests.
  • Recyclers must again be kept miles away from home. If this is difficult, make sure all containers get a thorough rinse frequently. Recycling and trash containers must be rodent proof and have a tight-fit lid.
  • Food can be placed in any air-tight containers or resealable plastic bags. Use older food first and clean out all stale food.
  • Last but not least; keep your home clean to give the pests absolutely no reason to stay back.

Even after taking all these measures if you still find your homes pest infested, then it is definitely time for a pest control. Remember a proper pest control also adds to the resale value of your property.
