Pre-Painting Stage

Right after the waterproofing stage, we go for the “Pre-Painting” stage or the ‘fixing stage’. As per the recommendations of the Master Painters of Australia we make sure 3 coats of paint are applied on the surface.

  • Primer – The first coat or the ‘plasterboard sealer’ that enhances the colour and makes sure the ceiling paint does not peel off.
  • Enamel – 2 coats of acrylic or enamel are put on after the primer. Select the acrylic for windows and doors wisely, as they stick together.

Why Pure Acrylic is Better than Vinyl

  • Better colour holding
  • Better adhesion during wet weather
  • Resistant to grease, peeling, dirt, blisters and also fungus growth
  • Does not stain from water, alkaline cleaning products and foods like coffee, mustard and tomato sauce

The Solvent Paint Should Have the Following Qualities:

  • Lasts long
  • Does not chip or crack
  • Inflammable
  • Does not turn yellow with time or emit odours
  • Easy to clean with water
  • Finer one coat hiding and better adhesion

The texture and pattern of the paint should be taken into account. It depends what you choose and how well it will work to give your place the optimal glossy look.

The 3 Choices

Gloss Paint

  • Finest of the lot in look and finish
  • Resistant to moisture (steam and water), dirt and fungus contamination
  • It can highlight any kind of imperfections on the surface. Opt for lighter hues to camouflage defects.
  • Regular cleaning is essential for maintenance

Low Sheen

  • Is susceptible to critical lightening
  • Needs to be cleaned often
  • It ought to be resistant to steam and water

Flat Paint

  • Vulnerable to water penetration
  • Splatter resistance
  • Diffuses light easily enough from windows and lamps
  • Appropriate for ceilings as they do not require regular cleaning

Tips for Getting the Desired Colour and Texture:

  • The darker the colour, the more the defects get noticed. Go for lighter shades and the defect goes unnoticed.
  • Surface texture depends a lot upon the application techniques applied
  • With spray painting you get a flat paint film on the surface, while the roller imparts light dimpling and diffuses light along with camouflaging any surface imperfections

Pre-painting Stage Inspection Includes

  • Windows, skirting, architraves and door fittings within suitable standards and optimal functionality
  • Weatherproofing the leaf masonry
  • Checking the pergola, deck, patio, carport, sheds, verandah (balcony) areas for structural finesse, materials, craftsmanship
  • Safety glass, safety switches, smoke alarms, vermin-proof, removable toilet doors, step and ceiling heights are inspected
  • Landings, termites and balustrading are some of the other categories that fall under our scrutiny
